Probability Discounting: Finally Choosing a Reward

Hi Everyone!

Great news: the rats have made their way through the practice trials and we are now about to collect useable data!

After looking through the preliminary data, it was determined the rats are ready to move on to the next step of testing.  We added new codes into the computer’s macro program and the rats will be continuing testing for the next couple weeks.

After the new testing is completed and the data of their probability discounting tasks are analyzed we will begin introducing different chemicals to the test process. Some of the chemicals will include nicotine, scopolamine and those that affect the orexin-2 receptors of the cholinergic system.  Besides testing each chemical individually, there will also be combinations of different chemicals, specifically those that affect the muscarinic and nicotinic receptors, which will allow us to analyze the interactions between those receptors of the cholinergic system

On a side note, later in this month there is a Summer Research Symposium, which many others and I will be participating in, from September 29th to October 3rd.   Come out and check out all the research!

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to come out to the SRS!
