Data doesn’t tell the whole story. In order to better understand the impact of the mobile phones on women’s empowerment, we conducted follow-up in-person interviews. Out of all the women who we asked during our phone survey, 34 in total, all but one offered their time for a face-to-face follow up.

Things didn’t always go quite as planned. While I was in Tanzania, the team struggled a bit to find an NGO that we could work with to implement Phase 2 of our research. Things took a bit longer than planned, but in the end, most of our problems worked themselves out. Each member of the team took responsibility for different aspects of the research, and I was asked to lead the initiative to follow-up with some of the women from Phase 1 of the experiment.
