W&M iGEM 2016: The Circuit Control Toolbox

One of the more important design features in synthetic biology is the ability to dynamically control the response of an inducible genetic circuit. We propose to create a toolbox of biological parts which will allow synthetic biologists to, among other things, control the transfer function of arbitrary circuits of their own design by (i) shifting its initial activation threshold to higher or lower concentrations of inducer molecule, and (ii) modifying the underlying hill coefficient to (a) change the slope of the response or (b) change the number and nature of inflections in the function. The parts in our toolbox will, when used in combination, allow each of these modification to be orthogonal to the others.
