First Week in Cambridge!

One week has passed since I arrived in Cambridge, and I already feel at home in this wonderful city. Christ’s College, founded in 1505, provides a picturesque backdrop for my British Humour and Cambridge Spies classes in the mornings from 9-11 on Monday through Thursday. Reading John Cleese’s So Anyway…, John le Carré’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and Agatha Christie’s N or M, I have begun to explore the themes of humor, anger, deception, betrayal, loyalty, and pride discussed in both classes. Film clips from Monty Python and episodes of BBC’s Cambridge Spies help illuminate the ways in which the British present these themes through cultural expression and are an important part of our courses.
