Week 1: Introduction and First reactions

The first week of working in the lab has been useful in displaying the physical and mental challenges of lab work. I have been working in this lab throughout the year for about 4-7 hours per week. Shifting to working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in the lab has been a challenge but helpful in its own way. It has allowed me more time to learn the basics of the environment and develop my skills when running reactions. The first day consisted of training and prepping the lab for the week ahead. The next day, we jumped right in and started running reactions.

Visiting Special Collections: Week 2 Update

This week was filled with more paging through yearbooks. At the end of the week I went to Williamsburg to visit special collections in Swem library. I spent a few hours looking through fraternity and sorority records and photos. I also examined some of records from the William and Mary theatre program to look for evidence of the William and Mary minstrel club. While in Swem, I looked through the Colonial Echo yearbooks from 1996 through 2008 which are not available online. In these yearbooks, I found examples of the many diverse student organizations and cultural celebrations that are now prevalent at W&M.
