Week 4 Research Recap

It has now been a month since I started my research in this maternal mortality lab. My advisor has helped me stay accountable with our meetings twice a week. At those meetings, I always want to make sure that I have progressed enough that I have something to show for it.

At this point in the research, all the information we will need for the analysis and master data set has been collected and downloaded. The fourth week of my research was spent cleaning the individual data sets of unnecessary information, reformatting them to make the merge easier, and manually calculating percentages from the raw data that we needed. There have been a few roadblocks along the way, but my advisor and the internet always come in handy when I get stuck with some form of data manipulation and such.

The next week will be spent merging the seven different data sets, completing the manual calculations through excel,  and making sure that there is not any loss of information during that transition.
