Getty-ing out and about

I can honestly say that every day of work this summer has been completely different from the one before. What time I need to come in to work and what days of the week I have off has been different week to week let alone the tasks I do once I arrive. In my free time, instead of crashing I’ve tried my hardest to navigate public transport and walking in the midday heat to see other art sights and venues around LA. Here I discuss the ones I would make a priority on someone’s LA sightseeing list. It’s not all museums!

Family Programs, Part 2

The Garden Concerts for Kids happened during my last two weekends at the Getty. The first weekend act was Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. He and his band brought a mix of rap, reggae and hip hop to the stage. A Grammy award winning hip hop artist, his positive songs all had the theme of celebrating independence and being ‘your own best friend’. His daughter used to be a big part of his act when she was much younger and for this concert she choreographed lots of dances with her friend to accompany the songs. The kids absolutely loved it and at the end they were lining up to get a photo with her. During the performance there was a pretty big group of them that bopped up and down at the stage and danced along with the girls moves the whole time.

Off the 405

As intern in the events department, I am helping out each member of the team when their events are on. The Getty hosts an impressive number of events and this team of ten are always super busy. The nice thing is that there are no private events and because of neighbours and noise issues, the number of evening events the center can have is restricted. In spite of this, things can still get pretty crazy with multiple events on at the same time.
