A Summer of Sketching

I spent this summer sketching. I drew and a I wrote and I learned more about research than I ever could have. This summer, I focused on two projects: a survey that tested for aphantasia, and a study that incorporates sketching in the classroom. While I started the summer focusing on neither of these projects, I ended up with not one but two projects to work on this year. Therefore, a summer of sketching will lead to a year of research.

Project updates- week VII

This seventh and final week of research had lab members providing several project updates. The two largest updates came from the aphantasia study and the biology pictionairy study.

Week VI update- Aphantasia survey

This week consisted of two major mile stones for out lab. The first was a trial run of the biology pictionary study. The second involved our pivoting toward focusing on creating an Aphantasia survey.

Week IV update

The lab read a paper this week that has altered the course of my summer. The lab read How Students Learn Content in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)Through Drawing Activities. This paper talks about the benefits and downfalls of teaching through drawing activities in stem related fields. The paper expands upon this idea by displaying which explain how drawing can build skills essential to building expertise.
