Final Weeks at the Phillips

My last two weeks at the Phillips Collection were filled with plenty of exciting projects and meetings across several departments. While I was sad to leave the my internship at the Phillips last Friday, I left with the sense that I made some valuable contributions over the past ten weeks. I also left with the sense that the relationships that I built over the course of this summer will not fade quickly, and I look forward to returning to the Phillips as often as possible with friends and family to share all that the museum has to offer.

Ai Weiwei to Klee

Last week at the Phillips Collection was filled with more exciting projects and field trips, keeping me so busy that I almost forgot that I’ll be finishing up my internship pretty soon. ¬†From proofreading manuscripts to making loan receipts to visiting striking exhibitions, this week certainly kept me on my toes.

Punk Life to Circus Life

Though last week was shorter (thanks to July 4th), it was still packed with Phillips-style fun and a couple of fantastic field trips. With visits to the Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and a punk-inspired Phillips after 5, this week full of fun made it easy to come back to work after a long weekend.

Building Up and Tearing Down

This past week at the Phillips Collection offered me opportunities to try new projects as well as continue previous ones. While I built up my comfort level for working with the museum website, I also got to help take down an exhibition that had become rather familiar to me during my time at the Phillips. These juxtaposed projects showed me that at any given moment, a museum is changing as much as it is remaining consistent. In addition to my larger projects this week, I also got to sit in on a meeting with the museum director, modify an informational cardholder, and even take a friend on a tour of the museum. This week’s opportunities to build up, tear down, and everything in between proved that there’s never a dull day in museum work.

5 Weeks in at the Phillips

I can’t believe I’m already halfway done with my internship at the Phillips! The past few weeks have flown by as I’ve worked on a wide range of projects for a variety of departments. My experiences during my fifth week are truly reflective of my internship experience thus far in terms of variety and value. Week five gave me opportunities to hone old skills, learn new ones, and even explore new parts of the museum.
